Wales Manager Satisfied With Draw Against Switzerland

Wales interim head coach Rob Page has insisted he is satisfied with the result as his side started their campaign with a 1-1 draw against Switzerland at the Baku Olympic Stadium on Saturday.

The 46-year-old says the stalemate against Switzerland feels like a victory as his side had to come from a goal down to pull parity.

Wales came into the game as the underdogs and rightly so the Swiss started the match on the front foot but could not get the breakthrough in the first half.

Vladimir Pektovic’s men got the lead four minutes after the break through Borussia Monchengladbach forward Breel Embolo.

Switzerland failed to score another goal and allowed Page’s men to gather momentum and got their equalizer from a delirious header from Kieffer Moore on 74 minutes.

"We wanted a positive start and it feels like a win in the changing room, we had to dig deep at the end and we had a bit of lady luck,” Page told the media.

"We had to compete defensively, but with the pace and quality we have in our team it always makes for an entertaining game.

Wales will now be facing Turkey on Wednesday before their last group game against Italy on Sunday.

"Turkey are a different opposition to what we've faced today, but we will have to be solid and well organized again,” Page added.

"Italy have quality in abundance and we respect Turkey too, it's all about focusing on that now and we will be preparing for that test now.

"That's the foundations, if we need to dig in we will but we've proved we can play."
